The 40 Years of Comics Project - Day 1558: Showcase #96, Dec-Jan. 1977
Negative Woman's story comes to the fore in today's issue and with it a whole heaping helping of what Americans thought Russians were like. The villain today, the robotic Cossack, is just an awful pile of Russian stereotypes. Strangely, after the team discovers his robotic nature, they have no trouble completely opening up on him and decimating the villain. Without even considering that if their robotic compatriot is alive, perhaps other robotic people are too. It's superhero comic book logic, though. Realistic logical thinking often has very little place in the heightened reality of the superhero. It's what I say to my wife when she asks questions about the logical problems in the MCU films. Superhero stories work on a structure of coincidence. And, as with magical thinking, one doesn't question coincidence. It is the universe speaking to you.
Probably best to stop there :D.
