Treasure from Tumblr

Another round-up of the neat art, costumes, and other assorted stuff from the Giant Box of Comics Tumblr feed.

First up, a cool little bit of writing about Baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi.

I know next to nothing about Spider-Gwen, but I do know that this cosplay is fricking amazing.

Some very creepy, but really, really cool, art.

A lovely comic about body-positivity (and about the importance of listening to our drunk selves occasionally.)

Perhaps one of my favourite Batgirl pics.

Welcome (the return of the sequel to the original 'Welcome')

I had thought for a little while there that the huge bump in page views was due to a particularly insistent bot or something, but the numbers appear to be steady, so I'll chance it, and welcome new readers to the blog!

Hi. I'm really honoured that you've taken some of your time to have a look at what I do. Here's some links that might help:

These social media ones occasionally will have content not on the blog, but mostly link back to the 40 Years project.
Facebook
Tumblr
Twitter
Pinterest

For those just joining the 40 Years of Comics Project, here's the first entry, and an explanation of the project.

If you're curious about where my collection came from (in part), here's some pictures of the store I ran in 2001 - 2002, The Magic Mirror.

I also have some semi-regular features:

On the Run: Mark Waid's The Flash - unfortunately on a bit of a hiatus - life and stuff, y'know?

The Dollar Bin - in which I wax lyrical about the pleasures and pains of cheap comics.

Artists to Check Out - whenever I find a bunch of cool art, I'll give you links to the artists' sites.

And, just occasionally, I venture into actually making comics: Sad Monster Comics.

There's more up here, so much that I've probably lost track. Have a poke about, and drop me a line if you're inclined. I'm always happy to talk about comics!

Giant Box of Comics Tumbls..Tumb'ls...Tumbls'r...something....

Most everything I post on this blog gets linked to my Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter accounts. The reverse, however, is not necessarily true. So here's a culling, today of the Tumblr page, of things that might not have made it to any of the other GBoC feeds:

I will never get tired of the abundance of Squirrel Girl art on Tumblr. Glorious!

The amazing comic "Lady Tilda and the Dragon."

I think this is one of my favourite Harleys that I've seen.

A really amazing deconstruction of the art styles on a single page of Squirrel Girl - gives a wonderful perspective on just how much work goes into the art of comics.

Probably one of, if not the greatest Lara Croft cosplay.

A series of really, truly wonderful visionary artwork.

And, lastly, a very important PSA from XKCD on what Freedom of Speech is all about:

I'll hit up the Facebook feed next time.

I've decided to put the word out to SOCIAL MEDIA!!!

Yes, a Twitter account wasn't enough. (@giantcomicbox)

The Giant Box of Comics now has a Facebook page and a Tumblr. There's going to be a lot of repeat, but I'll also post original content in those places appropriate to the forum.
