With the exception of some runs by particular writers and artists, I'm not really a fan of the mainstream Superman titles. Action et al. are great comics, but to me we get the real exploration of the character in the B-list comics. I absolutely love DC Comics Presents - it pairs the Man of Steel with characters that he wouldn't often be - like Blue Devil in today's comic, a character with whom I have only the passing-est of familiarity. The story itself is a bit mediocre, but as I say it's the range of artists and writers that tend to bring me to this series. This is the second last issue of the series, which ends with a wonderful Steve Gerber tale next issue. Today's is more of an older hero mentors younger hero kind of thing.

I like this era of Superman. He's not as petty as he gets in some of the Silver Age stuff I've been reading, and seems genuinely interested in fostering a community of superheroes.

More to follow.
