The 40 Years of Comics Project - Day 1543: The Mighty Atom and the Pixies, 1951
[Note: the issue that this image links to is for the 1949 US edition. Once I figure out how, I'll add the entry for the 1951 Canadian edition. Published by Superior Publishers, has all Canadian ads.]
In my Instagram post about this comic I noted that there was only one overtly racist story in the issue, which is not bad for 1951. I think that the thing I find most disturbing about these racist stories is not that they existed. No, I think what I find most disturbing is that there are people out there right now who would read these caricatured and cruel depictions and see absolutely nothing wrong with them.
I got nothing else about this. Don't be racist. This shit isn't funny. It's gross. Don't treat other human beings this way.
My POC comrades, I got your back.
"...in a flash of lighting and roar of thunder, the Mighty Atom appears!"
