Continuing, after the break, with the erotic adventures of Belore's Lolita.
A whole bunch more sex happens in this issue. Which, given that's the point, is pretty great.
As with the last installment, Belore's world is one of enormous secondary sex characteristics in male- and female-identifying people. Lolita and her cohorts trace a path of sexual abandon across the city night life.
One story that does stand out is entitled "The Earth Moved." In it, our eponymous heroine has a shower with a friend that becomes something more than simply a shower. What's interesting about this story, though, is that it's set up as Lolita's first time with another woman. Though Lolita herself admits in the story, she's not a lesbian. Despite this, she manages to enjoy the pleasures of another woman, at least once. I think this is another interesting example of the Questioning aspect of the queer initialism, whether it was intended to be or not. A previous example I looked at in Sandman Mystery Theatre shows Dian Belmont responding with curiosity to the sight of two women having sex. In today's story, Lolita, an ostensibly heterosexual woman, responds with curiosity, with questioning, in, admittedly, a particularly explicit manner. This seems to me to be adaptation of a similar story/scenario across genres. I wonder if I have others in the collection?
More of Belore in a couple of weeks.
Onward!
