The 40 Years of Comics Project - Day 764: Alpha Flight v.1 #21, April 1985

https://www.comics.org/issue/39891/

I thought, as I wasn't sure of what to read next, that perhaps it was time to jump back to the beginning of the collection and recommence my alphabetical read-through. It's been a while since I last read Alpha Flight, and I know I was getting cranky with it near the end there. But it's been almost a year since we last looked in on our Canadian representatives in the Marvel Universe. First things first, the battle up there on the cover never happens in the comic. Diablo only appears in flashback, back to the 1800s, so definitely no interaction with Sasquatch or Aurora. Maybe he'll come along next issue? I didn't even notice his absence from battle, as the story told a really nice little period piece about the origin of Gilded Lily. (SPOILER ALERT) I was sorry to see Lily crumble to dust at the end of this issue, as her story laid out a fascinating origin, and her steampunk-y aesthetic once revealed was really cool.

More Alpha tomorrow, I think. though I'm coming up to the parts of the series where my coverage is spotty, so expect crankiness when I can't follow the story. Or just in general. I'm cranky these days.

To be continued.
