The 40 Years of Comics Project - Day 572: My Greatest Adventure #85, February 1964

http://www.comics.org/issue/18219/

A quick one today - it's Monday and there's lots to do. I have to admit to a bit of disappointment in today's comic. Two strange radioactive creatures emerge from the Earth's core, and the Chief worries that should they come into contact, they'll ignite all of the nitrogen in the Earth's atmosphere. We're never actually told why these creatures seek contact with one another, nor are we ever given any motivation for their behaviour. Yet the Doom Patrol simply figure out a way to kill them. It wouldn't be quite so bad if the creatures were treated more as natural forces than sentient beings, but that's definitely not the case, but no attempt is made to communicate or find a non-lethal solution. The unfortunate human propensity to shoot first and ask questions later, I suppose.

This is the last of the Doom Patrol adventures under the masthead of My Greatest Adventure. I may keep going with them tomorrow. We'll see.

Onward.
