The 40 Years of Comics Project - Day 674: The Doom Patrol #89, August 1964

http://www.comics.org/issue/18531/

I know that they're called "The World's Strangest Heroes," but can we take a moment to recognize that they're often faced with the World's Strangest Villains? The last couple of issues have featured a brain in a jar and a talking gorilla. And today we have...well....that guy up there. The AVM Man, who, sadly, never actually looks like he does on the cover, is a weird, pseudo-Lovecraftian creature out to get Nile Caulder by killing the Doom Patrol. Early readers of the title must have wondered what exactly Caulder did to have all of these evil characters pop up from his past, though once we've read through Morrison's Doom Patrol, it becomes much easier to see why so many people hate him so much.

And I think that's all I have to say today. Evil scientist gives himself powers and tries to take revenge. Onward!
